About Us
Southwest Animal Hospital is a family-owned veterinary clinic based in Busselton, Western Australia. While we are a new clinic in the South West, our team brings years of experience across both general practice and emergency care. Our goal is simple, to remain personal and approachable, while offering the high standard of care and expertise your pet deserves.
Owned and operated by Dr Beckie McLean and her husband, Steven Hamilton, who after moving to the South West with their three boys Josh, Flynn, and Angus, quickly felt at home in the community and endeavour to provide Bussleton with the highest quality veterinary care (with the help of the family's three much-loved dogs: Franklin the English Bull Terrier, Alfie the Maltese cross, and Sylvester, a three-legged Pomeranian cross.)

Care you can trust, Backed by experience

Our Values

Our Mission
We believe the best veterinary care comes from strong relationships. By staying intentionally small, we’re able to take the time to truly get to know you and your pet, provide thoughtful, tailored care, and create a calm, welcoming environment where you feel supported and heard.
As a family run clinic, we understand the important role pets play in everyday life. We value kindness, balance, and compassion not just in the way we care for animals, but in how we work as a team and support our local community. We are proud to practise veterinary medicine with integrity, respect, and transparency, without the pressures of a corporate setting.
Our aim is to be the clinic you trust and turn to when your pet needs care whether it’s for routine wellness, advice, or when something doesn’t feel quite right. We’re here to support you and your pet through every stage of life, with care that is genuine, consistent, and always centred on wellbeing.
Our Team
We’re a small, family-run clinic, which means you’ll see familiar faces at every visit. Our team takes the time to get to know you and your pet, creating a calm and supportive experience from the moment you walk through the door.

Dr Beckie McLean - Veterinarian & Clinic Owner
Dr Beckie McLean graduated from Murdoch University and has worked as a small animal veterinarian in both general practice and emergency clinics across Perth and the Southwest. This experience allows her to provide calm, confident care while always keeping her patients’ comfort and wellbeing at the centre of everything she does.
Beckie enjoys all areas of veterinary medicine, with a particular interest in routine and soft tissue surgery, preventative care, and ultrasonography, and has completed further training in this field. She strongly believes pets are family and deserves to be treated with kindness, respect, and compassion. Knowing that vet visits can be stressful, Beckie focuses on making each visit as gentle, positive, and fear-free as possible.
Outside of work, Beckie loves spending time with her family, following the AFL (sometimes a little too closely), and travelling. Iceland sits at the top of her travel wish list.

Steven Hamilton - Veterinary Nurse & Clinic Owner
Steven Hamilton graduated with a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2013 and has extensive experience across both general practice and emergency veterinary care. After starting in general practice, he spent seven years working in a 24-hour emergency hospital in Perth, primarily on evenings and overnight shifts, where he developed a strong appreciation for the complexity and fast-paced nature of modern veterinary medicine.
Steven has a particular interest in surgical nursing and finds great fulfilment in seeing the positive impact surgery can have on both pets and their owners. This passion began early in his career after witnessing a surgical procedure that transformed a painful animal’s quality of life. With his emergency background, Steven is confident and calm when caring for critical patients, including those requiring urgent surgery and general anaesthesia.
Outside the clinic, Steven enjoys spending time with his children, four-wheel driving, and camping. He’s still working on convincing Dr Beckie to join the family on a bush camping adventure.
